I absolutely agree. I remember in my childhood, I wanted to be outside. Whether that be hanging with friends at a park, or just riding my bike around the block. I think ever since computers and cellphones have been invented, this is what's happened to our generation.
I see friends just sitting in the same room texting, maybe texting to eachother, instead of making a conversation. Luckily, the only time I can do anything wifi related, is at home, since I don't have texting on my phone and I don't have anything that is set up for wifi with a satelite. I admit I love to game and talk to friends on facebook, most of my friends are out of state in college so I only get to hang out with a few in real life. I don't think I'm a slave though. When I'm out with my parents or my friends, I don't even touch my phone because I was brought as it being a sign of 'I don't really want to talk' and it's rude.
It's terrible that this is the norm now. I hardly see kids out playing. They're glued to their screens walking home from school. In my opinion, if you have kids of your own, have them be social. Have them play games we used to play before this technology came into the world (puzzles, outside games, anything). Introduce them to technology like smartphones and all that at a later age, but of course limit it. Since college, I've realized I have been inside on the internet more than I should be, instead of being outside and enjoying life. I cut back, but I still get on it.
Anyways, thanks for showing that video. It just shows what this world has come to.
Tl;dr? People need to interact with eachother instead of interacting through the internet all the time. It's not good for anyone.
I watched this yesterday too
Looked up...saw my brother on the laptop and kindle, my mother texting friends or work, and my step dad watching television. Christ...some vacation...
Unfortunately that's the world we live in now, I particularly agreeded to the bit about been on the train and no one talking because it's "stupid to talk to strangers." I really do feel like our generation are missing out on key life skills. I was just about in the generation that used to play outside (18 years old).) I really do wish that I could have had the childhood my parents had .. Such a shame
Afraid of what to expect if I watch this during school. Will save it for home aha.
my mom said don't talk to strangers
Hard to explain my feelings about this, but I absolutely agree.
As a child I was first introduced to the gameboy, but it's not liked I played with it much. I don't know the exact order everything came out, but my sister later got this cool new technology which was then called the ipod, yes the 'old' ipod. Of course as we all grew up more and more new technology was released, which had fantasized me back then.
Later on, my brother got this thing, the ipod touch, I was so amazed by it because it was a touch screen! How cool was that? I always asked to play with my brother's ipod, but since he was such a grump (sorry tehee) he would barely let me play it. Eventually I got my own ipod, which I'm sad to say has led me to my addiction of using technology. This was also the time I was introduced to graal classic, which also led me into a further addiction. I'm glad to have met wondeful people on graal, but upset to be stuck online. Sometimes I wish I was never introduced to thes electronics, life seemed so much simpler without them sometimes.
I often think back about how much society has changed, and just wish it wasn't so much into technology. Even nowadays people are trying to make money and shop online, what does that tell you? Yet we all do have decisions, and we all can step back and let the screens drop, because being outside and doing other things is something we should do more often.
