are ranked placements broken? First time I was doing ranked I was going against people in gold it was pretty hard.

Im not sure tbh. I think its a mix of players on different skill levels to determine where you belong.

It's suppose to work that way, usually during the first 10 placement matches you'll match up with players from the range of low Plats to high silvers.
