Event Coins were supposed to show skill in events. Back then, it was pretty hard to get an EC because that's all they gave it out for, events.

Then they introduced EC snapshots and I can say, that was really lousy. Everyone had an EC and a lot of high EC items like the Stun Gun went down in trade value.

I don't think ec items should have ever been tradable.
