I did my homework before spending time making the hat. The movie "Shrek" and all of its sequels derive from the book "Shrek" written by William Steig in 1990. The book is not copyrighted (whereby DreamWorks and Disney were able to make a version of it). However the use of the story line of the Disney and DreamWorks version is copyrighted but as stated in this interview none of this companies own the image of shrek (as the character) or any of the characters because they are legends created centuries ago many by book authors.
