My idea would be that none of the players actually own a shop. You simply provide what to sell and it is categorized into a shop type. I also think you should bring back in jobs for this. So you will have to gather materials to craft your line of products. Maybe that way you could turn it into another job with controlled income. Either that or just give them the satisfaction of having your their stuff sold and offer a different reward system with maybe gift cards to the mall or a whole separate area of currency.
And if you don't want to make it where you gather cloth or other items not involved in the gathering process, you could make a barter shop where you trade say minerals for cloth.
The last thing I might add, is to have the shops display like normal but also have a place in the back with NPC copies of the player and you can tap them to see their shop. Either that or have a picture on the walls in there with all the players that supply the shop. So in the main shop area would be a picture of all the players heads and then in the backroom there will be pictures hanging up. Each one brings you to a different copy of the shop.
And again to repeat, your a supplier, not a merchant. I also think the shops should be in order of prices so the last picture on the wall will be the losers selling everything for 999999 or whatever. Also make sure players not monitoring there supply lose their line.
