i dont think you got the point of pillow shading its not a shading type you should use its bad shading style that starters use

It's used to make simple glowing lights.

If I told him to pillow-shade the whole gun that'd be a whole different story.

It makes a lot sense to pillow-shade the light however considering it'd be stupid to find a light-source of a light-source.

You could also try for some AA but it will look bad in-game and in some dark places
