Lapiz's Levels

Hello everyone, in this thread I wanted to show people one of my creations that I have made. In this thread you will see two images of the same level.
Because of the level size, I had to make two images to ensure that the viewer of this thread (You) will be able to observe the whole level. I hope you like it.

Please, if you have any feedback, or any tips, feel free to reply to this thread. I will regularly check this thread. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message.

Decent, but the shell shop is way too small and I bet the interior would be unrealistic corresponding to the exterior's size.

I love the little bench area on the outside level. And I think you also did a really good job with the interior one; looks just like what you were going for, which is a comfortable apartment place :)

Hello everyone viewing this forum, I decided that I'm gonna make a hospital. I thought it would be super fun to make, and I'm not gonna lie, I am pretty excited to make it lol. You will see images of the level soon :).

Also, thank you for your feedback on the previous levels.

Not a bad shape. I would say to line the windows with the wall borders. It helps box them in and emphasizes the windows making the building stand out a little better

Hello everyone!!! Since I made a Hospital, and every building has an inside, I thought that it would be very fun to design the inside of the hospital.

You will notice that there's windows and you can see carpet, tables, chairs, and bushes. That will also imply inside of the levels. Since it would be more realistic if it appeared inside of the level. I'm excited to make it and it will look good.

Here's some things I want to inform you about though however. I don't have any images of hospital beds, or many images relating to a hospital. So in that case if your wondering why there won't be a room with hospital beds, that will the be the reason why. I also don't have any hospital equipment like heartbeat monitors. I can make a couple of doctor/nurse NPC's though. I will also use tiles that you would typically see in a hospital. Well, that's what I wanted to get off my chest to ensure there isn't any confusion while your viewing the level.

Hello everyone! I have finished the inside of the Hospital. It looks amazing. I also wanna lay down some things that I applied to this level just to make sure you know
1. The inside is based off the outside, so if you match them together, they should be pretty similar on the bottom-side of the level.
2. I didn't have many images relating to a hospital/clinic. So I tried my best to work things out.

(To avoid any confusion, none of the images was anything I made, I just found the files from era images and I made them into NPC's. I don't take any credit for the images).

I'll leave comments on your earliest levels and work backwards.

1) Your water seems a little too linear. Water doesn't behave it flows randomly within a defined space, however at certain points your water has carried on in the same direction for 5+ tiles.
I'm not going to lie, I'd rather put a straight line of water than it constantly changing directions, but you shall receive better resultsif you spend more time on the water.

2) Perhaps have less legs? I feel like having too many hinders the aesthetic capability in your level.

3) I'm not too sure on your type of shading but Shading allows Levellers to make a 2D level as 3D as possible. There's a few shading flaws in your levels, so I'll try to coherently address the matter here.
One thing I always tell people is imagine you are standing in the level. From your (The Graal player) perspective it would be 3D, so try and Level based on your Graalians perspective rather than what you see from your PC.

I'll show you what I mean.

Take this noob for example.
The way he's facing from his perspective he would see the back of a wall right?
Well since we can't see it, we use Shading to create that Impression.
The correct way which it would be implied would be through the shading on the right.

Try and use this concept a lot more in your levels to maintain the realism.

4) You're missing legs from your walk. Never leave them floating like that. It ruins the level :(

5) When you walk up stairs, Does the railing not go up with the stairs? Well in Graal, unless you can make the GFX for that you're tiles are going to have to go up as well.

6) Perhaps add more life to the Grass? Some flowers. Dirt patches under the trees. Make it wild ;) (not too wild)

7) Your pathways need more life. Add a few Lamposts, Drainages etc.


All in all your levels are Improving each time. Well done :)

I finished the refurbishment of the level, and I edited it based off Bulletzone's tips. There was a few things that I want to inform you about:
1. The dock on the stairs, I couldn't make it exactly like Bulletzone's images. Here is the two reasons why. I couldn't find the same tiles he used. I looked very hard but for some odd reason couldn't find it for the life of me. Also, The level wasn't big enough so I had to make it a bit more smaller than Bulletzone's. But, I tried my best to make it look as identical as possible.

2. You may notice that the lamp posts look very big, I'm sorry for that. It was the only images that I could use from Era PC.

How is it now? I tried my best to follow your tips. I also tried my best to make sure the shading was as realistic as possible.

1) All around the level, you've just completely cut off the table. The only time you can do such a thing is if you want to create a shelf on the wall, but other than that Avoid this.

2) Corner off your counters. (hopefully the picture gives you an Idea of what I mean) It makes things look more professional and it brings out the counter more if you corner it off (Add borders).

3) Just like you have for the door add borders to your window to bring it out.

4) You need to add a wall in the areas highlighted in purple. It looks like floating tiles.

I quite like this level. Take your time when levelling for the first couple of time and eventually you'll become accustomed to levelling and be making levels quickly and ​most of all be innovative.

There is no shading along the bottom of the board walk. Why you may ask?

What would a Graalian see?

From their perspective (the graalian's) they would see behind that wall, but we can't see this.
This is why we don't add shading along the bottom, as it defeats that perspective and ruins the whole level.
Notice also my shading when changing corners; I maintain that perspective.

Hello everyone, so I ended up making a new gun shop. I had a lot of fun making it, and I think it looks cool. I wish I was able to add one of those cool windows at the cash register, but I wasn't able to because I didn't have any windows that would fit the canvas. And they were a bit too big. You missed a few spots with your shading (shown in yellow)

The walls which I have scribbled out in Blue are not needed. They should have ended where the lining of the level corners off.

If you're having troubles with windows that are too big, I'll introduce you to a script that shortens the dimensions of your window.
They're are a couple of scripts you'll need to know for levelling, but I'll start you off with 2 Basic ones today.

Moving an NPC:
If you have insane OCD like me, sometimes NPC's in your level will have to be perfectly centred. We can move them using the following Script:

What this script shall do is move the NPC HALF A TILE UP and HALF A TILE LEFT.
If you want to move it right, You would replace the x minus(-) with an x plus(+) and if you want to move it down you would replace the y minus(-) with a y plus(x).

This is the most used Script an LAT shall EVER have to use in Levelling, so I would advise any levellers reading this to learn it. :)


Shrinking an NPC:
You can crop an NPC and in a way you can Enlarge it (ask me in the PM's how).
How you may ask?

What exactly is going on?
The first 2 Numbers (0, 0) are the X,Y coordinates of where the Computer looks at. If you open Paint and place your mouse anywhere, In the bottom of your screen you shall be given the X and Y coordinates of where your mouse is. Similarly, Graal shall use the X and Y coordinates of your Image

(Often you may just need (0,0) but in some instances you may have to start from a different point, so Open the image in Paint or something and get the coordinates from there).

The next 2 Numbers (32, 48) are How far RIGHT and DOWN you want to crop out (In pixels).
1 tile in Level editor = 16 pixels

This means that script will crop 2 tiles right(32 Pixels) and 3 tiles down(48 pixels).

Yeah thank you bulletzone :). I've always been using x and y too cause it bothers me a lot too lol. Most of the time I place down an NPC it's not aligned correctly haha.

But wow.. I didn't know about cropping that's cool.

Right now I'm making a re-make of the mafia zone base and it's lookin' pretty goooood.
