Welcome to my definitive fishing guide, where you can find all the information you can get about fishing! (hopefully)

This thread will be updated quite regularly with new updates whether that be fish/bobbers or better images :)

How Do I Fish?

The fishing shop is located on the beach to the right of the shell shop

Inside is the main room of the fishing shop where you can buy a fishing rod for 250 gralats

Stand by a source of water (river or ocean) and use the equpped fishing rod

As shown in the above image, the bobber (default red bobber used) will be floating after being cast and a fish shadow will appear around the bobber. The fish will pull the bobber under the water which is when the fish can be caught.
Note: The bobber will only be under the water for approximately 1-2 seconds before the fish escapes.

The fish caught can be sold at the fishing shop for gralats. Look below for sell prices.

Leveling Up/Bobbers

The level cap for fishing is 100.

As you catch fish you gain experience points which level you up. Experience points are awarded for both catching fish andtrash. Leveling up will increase the durability of your fishing rod (number of uses).

Experience and level can be seen by writing showfishlevel. The barrel in the backroom can also be grabbed while a number has been typed to check the experience required for future levels.

Achieving level 5 grants you access into the backroom of the fishing shop where you can sell rare fish as well as upgrade your bobber.

These bobbers are free with the only requirement to obtain them being level. Upgrading your bobber DOES NOT increase the chance of catching rare fish. They are an aesthetic to show off your fishing level.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Just been talking with Naack and turns out bobbers do not increase the rate at which rare fish are caught. They are an aesthetic for those who achieve higher levels of fishing, much the same as the MPX gun skins.

Now before anyone starts to complain, just remember, leveling up your fishing level provides a huge increase in rod durability, and hence profit. The ability for this job to make profit lies in the level of the player. Profit can be turned at relatively low levels so this shouldn't be an issue at all.


Also @Morganga and anyone interested in the experience gained per fish, the experience is random and varies on every catch.

Yeah, the graphic is so ugly, not the boober but the rod.

Does anyone know the experience to go from level to level? Like a list would be very useful. So far, I know the following:

0-1 = 0 exp
1-2 = 110 exp
2-3 = 230 exp
3-4 = 360 exp
4-5 = 500 exp
5-6 = 640 exp
6-7 = 780 exp
7-8 = 930 exp
8-9 = 1080 exp
9-10 = 1200 exp?
10-11 = 1230 exp
11-12 = 1480 exp?
12-13 = 1620 exp?
13-14 = 1760 exp?
14-15 = 1900 exp?

Feel free to correct any of these if you know the exact amount of exp. These are what I would predict levels 7-14 would be, following the simple pattern from levels 0-6.

In the backroom of the fishing shop, there is a barrel in the top right corner which when grabbed after saying a number between 1-100, will tell you the exp required to level up from the previous level to the level said by the player :)

Thanks so much, if this truly works I can complete my formula, which will be somewhat helpful for some players.

So I have fished 10000 fish now and I kept track of everything to estimate the probabilities of each fish.

So here are my findings

• Trash appears 33% of the time. Always. It is unaffected by your level. In the other 66% case the game first checks if you will get a rare fish. If you don't get a rare fish, it checks if you will get a location-specific fish. If not, you will always get any of the normal fish at random.
• The initial rare fish percentage is around 1%. It seems to be increased by 1% for every level. But keep in mind that even at level 100 you will still get trash 33% of the time. Also there might be a cap at some point.
• Out of the rare fish, the Eel appears 33% of the time while the Noob appears 66% of the time.
• The normal fish have the same probability, except location-specific fish which are rarer. I estimate that location-specific fish appear 25% of the time, while normal fish appear 75% of the time.
• The higher your level, the lower the probability of finding normal and location-specific fish. So the advantage of fishing in any of the places with location-specific fish is gradually getting smaller.
• I make 1600 gralats per hour on average, but that is without the cost of fishing rods. I broke 5 fishing rods in that time. So thats more like 350 gralats per hour.

EDIT: I created a new account to check the sturdiness of fishing rods at beginner levels:

• Level 1: 28 (+/- 5) catches before "My fishing rod is feeling weak" message appears
• Level 2: 36 (+/- 5) catches before "My fishing rod is feeling weak" message appears
• Level 3: 42 (+/- 5) catches before "My fishing rod is feeling weak" message appears
• Level 25: 55 (+/- 5) catches before "My fishing rod is feeling weak" message appears.

The HP of the rod goes down by 1 for every catch, but the total HP varies by plus or minus 5. The HP of the rod does not go down for any other action, even if the fish gets away. As soon as the HP hits 0, the message starts to appear. When the message appears, there is a certain probability to break the rod every time you use it, even if you use it on ground where there is no water! So be very careful when you see the message. You might get 5-10 more catches if you are lucky.

To sum it up how the game decides which fish you get (I think, not sure):

1. 33% you get trash
2. if not, then [YourLevel]% you get rare fish (if you get rare fish, it is 33% an Eel or else a Noob)
3. if not, then 25% you get location-specific fish
4. if not, then you get normal fish

The rare fish percentage is capped at 25%. So it does not matter if you are level 50 or level 25, the rare fish percentage is the same.
Here is the (pretty) accurate algorithm for getting fish:

1. 33% you get trash
2. if not, then [YourLevel capped at 25]% you get rare fish (if you get rare fish, it is 33% an Eel or else a Noob)
3. if not, then 25% you get location-specific fish
4. if not, then you get normal fish

In short: This job is crap.

wow, i spent hours and hours fishing and now you're saying its crap.

You can find the Tuna in Little Italy! It was announced that Tuna was there when Little Italy got released. :D

Can someone tell me how much ex each fish is worth?

Here is my data on the exp values of different catchables:

Bottle 1-3
Tire 1-3
Bass 1-3
Black Bass 1-3
Tadpole 3-6
Clown Fish 2-5 (?)
Dab 6-8 (?)
Noob 8-17
Eel 10-30 (?)
Blue Snapper 10-12 (?)

The actual exp you get is random in the possible range.
Because of this randomness, it is hard to find out how much exp a certain fish gives on average, because you need to catch each fish once when it gives you its lowest amount of exp and once when it gives you its highest amount of exp. Tracking all this data is time consuming and annoying, so I just gave up.

Digging was never the main source of income.

It is mining, then pizzas and then probably digging. Although i could give those crabs a run for their money by running around picking trash and mushrooms while delivering mail
