House Ratings! Any Suggestions?

Hey guys and gals, we have some developers working on a house rating system as suggested by some of you, and I've been authorized to share a bit about it! We?re thinking about having the ratings shown on profiles too. There will be limits to how often you can rate, and you will be able to change your rating of another player's house after a period of time. There will also be a way to reset your house rating for a fee, similar to resetting spar scores.

What do you think? Do you have any suggestions on how to move forward? What do y'all think the limits should be on ratings and resets? What other stuff do y'all want to see done with a house rating system?

I'll reply cause why not?

For the rewards maybe a small cash prize will do?

And for the boosting part I'll say:
- Maybe make friends unable to rate?

Only identified accounts with 150+ hours can rate. The prize would be gralats (cuz im broke)

Then they'll just unadd them most likely

To combat boosting I suggest the following:
-Only 300 hours+ can vote (Maybe identified too)
-A SMALL cash prize(100-200)/ one free furniture of your choice?
-Friends can vote only once/longer vote cooldown?

Alright, since the new house ratings will most likely come out soon. I will suggest the possibilities for the future of house ratings. Basically some ideas:

-Competitions
Annual/Monthly competitions between the best voted houses (10-30). The 1st to 3rd place will get a bigger cash prize from 3000-1000 and the rest will get a free furniture of their choice or a smaller cash prize. This will eliminate houses which have been boosted too.

-House awards
This can include most voted house, best festive house (according to festivals/seasons). These houses can get cash prizes of 3-5k/event coins? and a special recognition award eg a statue/trophy for the respective thing they won.

-Christmas
During Christmas, an admin will announce to the server that they will be visiting houses that are decorated for Christmas and give them a $500 present if it is.


Put the rest of your ideas for the continuation of the house ratings :)

+ besides the hours and the identification, if the account isn’t 1+ month old they can’t vote

its nice to see the staff team asking for suggestions for once so thank you.

it would make more sense to have a furniture reward wouldnt it? an exclusive set of furniture and maybe a trophy for the top 10 houses each month would be nice

How will you decide which are the best though ?
A 5 stars house with 1 vote will be better than a 4.7 with 100 votes ?
Anyways I don't think a reward is needed here really..

Also it'll be nice to see how many peoples in total visited our house, and how many of them voted :)

I feel like annually, there should be a first, second and third place prize for the winners.
Perhaps gralats (like 30k for first), ec (5 for first), and this trophy:

You may use this trophy for first place as obviously it'd be impossible for the gfx staff to recreate better art.

Also to get a clear cut winner, I'd say multiply the average house rating by the number of votes.

you could also incorporate monthly themes as well if you want and correspond them with new furniture each month or so, with a reward being the next set of furniture.

houses would need 100+ votes to go into the running to be judged by a judging team.

Apart from the LAT department, no other staff team has the time to be going around houses.

I like the idea of multiplying the average rating by number of total votes, I’m sure the people working on this would have to run some numbers first and all that. I also like the idea of having only identified accounts being able to rate houses, it’s much more annoying to make new identified accounts than it is to just hop on a new account.

So looks like y’all want competitions and rewards and stuff. Not sure how themes would work since it’ll be players judging houses, not staff. How often do you think they should be done? Do you think ratings should reset after each competition to give newcomers a better chance? Also, my opinion, but I’d like a considerable gralat prize if competitions like this end up being made, since furniture is pretty expensive. Heck, if regular automated competitions like this were done, people could use house designing as a job after they shell out for a bunch of furniture.

Maybe the prize is a hefty amount of gralats and if they want they can use it on a special shop with furniture inside for winners only

I've gathered all your feedback and found a system that could work. Here's how it all works:

- House competitions are held every season (4 times a year). House ratings are reset every season, so everyone has a fair chance. The winner of the seasonal competition would win a prize (prize is to be discussed).
- Once you have rated a house, you may NOT rate another house for another couple of hours. Furthermore, you may not change your rating on that specific house until the next seasonal competition comes.
- Owners will not be able to reset house ratings. The only way a house rating can be reset is when the season changes (a new house rating competition will begin).
- Players MUST be identified AND have 100+ hours to be able to participate in house voting.
- To be eligible to win, your house must have a minimum of 50 ratings.
- Once the season changes, the voting period will end. We will now enter another voting period, but it will be the top 3 houses for the season. This new voting period will last one week.
- The top 3 houses will be chosen by a fair algorithm which takes into account the number of total ratings.
- The voting will be in game via the Era Go forums
- After a week has passed, the player with the house with the most ratings will win a prize.

Does this seem good? Am I missing anything?

Aaaaaaand after a very long dead period of this idea being scrapped, it's back in development!

House Ratings are live at the moment in game for beta testing. The ratings you guys submit are to test scoring algorithms and testing database structures.

Why was this even added? Smh

Theres definitely has to be top houses leaderboard, so even if you got your house rating “boosted”, people are gonna see the house and rate it themselves.

I am a bit confused as to how a, "fair algorithm," will work in rating houses by their star score.

The big boss has come up with a pretty solid algorithm. The main reason why it went into beta testing and players can vote was to test out the algorithm and see if it produced the right results

Current plans include a leaderboard, auto rotation of scores every month (done to a certain extent), prizes, and a nice way to determine the winner. I was thinking maybe have the top 10 houses duke it out at the end of the month, where players can freely enter and vote on one of the houses they feel should win.
