Neither is superior, but with the franchises and exclusives both have it can make buying one a tough decision. I bought the PS4 as soon as it was released (which was stupid of me I should have waited for a bundle) and it has been good to me. Here are some franchises both consoles have
Xbox: Halo, Gears of War, Minecraft (because they recently bought it) State of Decay (which it's sequel on xbox one will be mmo zombie game), Fable, Crackdown, Dance Central, and Forza.
Playstation: Infamous, God of War, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Socum, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and more.
The franchises above are the reason people pick the console they want as other games like CoD are for all systems. It would be best to look into future franchises for these consoles in the future as they will be supporting their console with their games for a very long time.

PS4 is superior in hardware specs since it can support true 1080p on demanding games.
But in personal preference, I like the One because I've grown up with XBOX and it just seems more enjoying to me.
So overall, the XBOX One if you like to multitask and do some interesting things, or the PS4 for the graphics.
They are both great depending on your taste of gaming. I would go for the Xbox one, but that's just my opinion.
Pretty much just depends on what exclusives you like or what system all of your friends have. Otherwise they seem to be very similar in my personal experience.
