Probably because Trochus is the most easiest shell to get from digging.

It's because 10 yr olds don't understand values. They think more(tro) is more when less(sand) is more.
From the shells, trochus are the most common ones, people but them because they can continue digging getting trochus faster and getting more each time.
The system from trading is ran by kids, what do you expect? They don't know anything about quantity and quality.
