So at, for example, 5000 hours, the user could upgrade the gun from 4 to 5 damage and it would cost 25000 Gralats. And at 10000 hours, the user could upgrade the gun to 10 damage for 50000 Gralats. This seems fair in my eyes since by the end of the whole process, the player would have needed to spend 275000 Gralats (5000 + 10000 + 15000 + 20000 + 25000 + 30000 + 35000 + 40000 + 45000+ 50000) to acquire the fully upgraded gun. And the 10000 hour mark, as Asirader suggested, would give the player a unique melee.
Catch my drift? Every 1000 hours earned, the user can upgrade the gun for 5 times the hours that they earned.
1000 hour upgrade = 5000 Gralats
2000 hour upgrade = 10000 Gralats
3000 hour upgrade = 15000 Gralats
4000 hour upgrade = 20000 Gralats
5000 hour upgrade = 25000 Gralats
6000 hour upgrade = 30000 Gralats
7000 hour upgrade = 35000 Gralats
8000 hour upgrade = 40000 Gralats
9000 hour upgrade = 45000 Gralats
10000 hour upgrade = 50000 Gralats
Perhaps the upgrades could be locked similar to how the hats in Dairy Hut are locked based on hours, or even locked like how the PK/spar rewards are locked to people who don't make the stat requirements?
This is obviously just an idea. Whether or not it's script-able, I got no idea.
