Pretend the light source is from the left, shade it from the right, dunno if I'm right though.

One of my friends told me this,

Take a knife and put it in the light and look how at the top it looks really bright and it gets darker towards the bottom of the knife try imitating that even taking a picture of it will help. Choose a color and find different colors in that color darken it, make it lighter and so on!

    Like my art teacher says,
    "Don't always rely on references."

Sure it's a good way to practice, but I have never done that. What I do is study swords from other pixel artists (Authentic pixel art, not Graal) or study Graal swords. Combine, relate, and create.
    Computer Science major? I don't know. What's GS2?
    日本語が少し出来ます。でも、「Weeb? ??じゃないですよ!

I don't fully rely on what he says but I have my style of shading so I like sticking to that so I only got an idea from what he said

I can. Dont use neon colors. And there is such thing as dark colors. It might not make that much since but use duller colors. Shading comes naturally overtime. Idk watch tutorials or something.
