There are really soooooo many factors that could be affecting your wifi.
1.) Your box could be getting worn out and not distributing as good of a signal.
2.) The Ethernet cable could be getting worn out.
3.)Other members of your family could be downloading, streaming or watching youtube.
Those are just a few simple examples, there are so many other factors. I would suggest, if you wanted to prove your dad wrong, you should download an Internet Usage Meter type of software.
