The real problem with the ion carbine and its "bigger" hitbox is that the bullet image is smaller than the radius of damage that it has. For example, as though it might look like you dodged the ion carbine's bullet, you still get damaged because the damage radius of the bullet is not accurately represented by the image it has.
As a solution you must either make the hitbox smaller, so that it fits the image of the bullet, or make the image of the bullet bigger so that it fits the radius of damage.
