Lightbulb "Coins are Mint to be" - A Stock Market Idea.

    Dear Era Community,

The reason I put this in "community discussion," rather than "future improvements" is because I wish for a discussion revolving around this idea, involving the community. With every idea comes pros and cons, hence the reason why other CONSTRUCTIVE OPINIONS are in favor.

So, what's this idea you wish for discussion upon, TyG? A stock market! A stock market is a stock exchange, where shares are purchased or sold to receive equity from a company. As a business, to sell shares, a prospectus is needed, and you need to be a Public Limited Company (PLC) or Private Limited Company (Ltd.). To start these, you need two things: a Memorandum of Association and an Article of Association. There's a lot more to it! If you're interested, research it in your own time or ask me!

I believe this idea could be in the game, where a PLC/Ltd./Multinational Company (MNC), like G187, Astro's, gang zone shops, etc. sell shares on the market. This way, we can try to manipulate the stock exchange to our advantage or "fail" horribly. This feature can also help us make extra money through selling equity we own. Each success of a business is incredibly dependent on individual events that happen in the stock market and should be extremely reliant on the players themselves as well (purchase shares at a high price, price rises, vice versa)!

The stock market in-game could be an interesting way of having a bit of fun (it's like gambling, as the stock exchange is always risky). If the admins wish to be super economical, the stock market could be affected by political, technological, trend, age factors, fiscal/monetary policies, etc. There's a lot more to it (such as Initial Public Offerings, etc.), but keeping it simple would make this feature more addictive/fun.

What do you guys think? Let me know!

Im like 98% sure more than half of Era doesnt even know what a stock market is or how it works. Itd be fun for us adults, but not sure how well it would do with younger people.

    Hahaha, Mikey.

You do have a point. Would it hurt to add it though?

Also, yes, it will hurt to add it.

    i) Forces the staff team to assign developers to implement a fairly complicated concept into a video game made for kids.

ii) Forces the staff team to assign developers away from other, more pressing projects/ issues like Countryside, which all of us have been waiting for for years.

iii) People like me and other fairly resourceful people would band together and drive prices up/ down on our whim, not unlike Gould and Fisk.

iv) Lack of presence of SEC to counteract people like me.

    v) People will whine about losing money since it would have to involve risk inherently.

vi) Every job, except for the casino involves absolutely zero risk yet yields a profit that ultimately yields a positive outflow. Hence, the reason why no one goes into the casino for money.

vii) No reason to do stock market when there are quick and easy ways to earn money and/or iTunes.

ix) Kids likely unaware of what a stock market is/ how it functions properly, which ruins the idea self interest and basically screws over Adam Smith's idea of the invisible hand, since kids don't know the difference between "right" and "wrong" on the stock market.

    x) You need brokers for stock markets.

xi) Most stock markets are influenced by the business cycle. Era has none. No stock market.

xii) Even if an algorithm was put in, to simulate a business cycle, no kid has the patience to stick through a recessive time period.

xiii) Possibility of a stock market "crash" exists.

xiv) Stocks are also influenced by foreign markets, along with the inflation and deflation of currency. Era has one currency only. Gralat. No inflation or deflation. No outside/ foreign countries. No influence.

xv) No kid cares about the stock market. It's just a game.

xvi) Also, your title doesn't even match the topic of your thread. You didn't even talk about the presence of a treasury or a mint.

I like how you put this in the discussion thread and said that you wish for a discussion that's why you put it here. Every thread has a discussion in it, maybe put it in the right place next time. Back on topic, I think this would be a good idea however, like Mikey said a good percentage of Era has no clue what a stock market is. Other than that I think this would make the game more interesting because it is mostly just the same ol' song and dance.

    Hey Fahrenheit,

Firstly, the pun intended was just to add humor. I searched up, "economic puns" and got that pun. It was supposed to be funny (hehe)! The title did have relevance as my title said, "A Stock Market Idea," which I did talk about in this thread; this idea to implement a stock market in-game.

Now for those confused, here's what a mint is (I researched it after seeing the pun). In banking, to put it simply, it's a primary producer who produces coins for a country, with the government's consent, involved in the distribution of currency, protection over assets and to "oversee its various production line." Another complex notion involving mint is about the "economies of Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Turkey."

Now, for your other points, I get what you mean, and I like all your points. However, as much as you are right, it doesn't have to be super complicated. Much like the stock exchange in Grand Theft Auto 5, all you have to do is buy some shares, wait for something to influence the prices, then sell your shares.

You are correct, but I hope this comment makes my idea a little more simplified?

    Appreciate your comment brother.

Here is the page I used to research what was said: https://www.google.com/search?q=mint...mic+definition

    Hehe, sorry Toxic.

Please feel free to move it.

Now, on what you said - this is true. So let's not call it a stock market, perhaps? Instead, just call it the Graal Market (something simple)? In my opinion, you don't have to say it's a stock market, and instead, follow the same principle that GTA5 uses for its stock market? GTA 5 is very straightforward with its stock market, so this system could be adopted into this game.

However, a stock exchange sounds boring, so something else with this notion can be done? Perhaps making it a job could be an example? I know there is a bank near the Event House. Why not simulate a bank investing job there? An accountant can give instructions on what to invest in (multiple things), where the user can go "online" (the user doesn't go onto a real life platform to fund other companies), and click on which companies the analyst suggested to spend on. There could also be an amount the user has to invest into each designated company. The accountant can advise notions like, "I want to spend a lot of money into Astro's," where the user has to make a judgment call on how much to invest. There could be a suggestion box on how much to spend when investing in a company (to make it simple), i.e., $700-$1000, and the user has to make a judgment call within that price range. Depending on how close the user is to what the accountant wanted to spend, the user can make a lot or little money (this is in reference to salary).

As this job sounds professional and is slightly more complicated than driving a car, I suggest raising the amount users are paid to do this job (depending on their accuracy with investing into other companies). The salary amount for users for doing this job is up to the staff to decide (I've never done a job, so I wouldn't know what a suitable salary is in this game).

This new suggestion is just an idea. What do you think?
