Hey!

Alright, well not quite sure if WreX told you this but; do NOT use many colors on a small graphic piece. It will end up not looking clear and too realistic.

So, your color palette is just ludacriy: way too many colors and yet obtains indefinite shading.
In this case, minimize your color palette.

Cool! Now that we got that done, let's check the outline.
Oh no! There's jaggy lines. =[ Jaggy lines make the "block-y", just doesn't look too good. Now, in few cases, jaggy lines can be "cured" by applying AA, but AA isn't alwaysthe answer. I like to think pixel art line art as numbers.. The length has to correspond to the one before, not increasing/decreasing in a dramatic matter.

Okay! So line art should be fine. Also, I caught that the yellow in your hat is not very proportional to the bottom outline. You can only copy and paste (+mirror) when its symmetric, other than that, you have to do it by the outline: the curves.

Now that we got that done! Time to shade. Shading all depends on lighting, and for iEra, top lighting is mostly used, but it can be argued (I stick with top lighting).

Of course, you can add texture or what not, but like I said before, be careful with your color palette...
Well, my edit might not have been the best, but I hope you get an idea of what you need to make.

We all have different styles, so if your shading doesn't look like mine, it's okay! =]
