I have found a workaround for the screenfreeze problem, and it was already an option in the game.

So basically Era tries to retrieve data from the local cache periodically, and if the cache is in gigabyte sizes it takes a long time for the Android filesystem to look for the file. If we disable the "Cache Files" option in-game, instead of looking through the local cache storage it downloads fresh from the internet, which is nearly instant and thus there is no screenfreeze.

Right now android linux filesystem isn't optimized well for retrieving data in such small amounts. The technical term for this is "Sequential storage access", it means that it loads starting from the beginning of the file and proceeding step by step. The reason you can play latest 3D games smoothly is because it loads up the game data into the RAM all at once.

Perhaps maybe reformatting the phone with a better optimized filesystem may solve this problem, but that's for an another day.
