It's all a part of a global conservative trend: Brexit, the crazy man Duterte, Australia's rise of extreme-conservatism and now the Republicans X Trump in the US.
IMO it'll turn around eventually when everyone tries to enact trickle down economics and causes another global financial collapse.

this conservative trend can really be pointed at social media. In fact I'd say social media played a huge role in this election. The trend right now is that sm and news outlets are reporting stories that are creating a sense of panic and fear. Trump while blaming the media for the skewing of the election, is actually showing a kind of brilliance in a way for his clever use of manipulation to dupe the public into voting for him.

While he calls the media wrong and unfair he doesnt seem to disagree with their reports on terrorism and immigration as well as his other core issues, because in fact by letting people believe what they are saying he himself is only making a stronger case for his arguments
such as "building a wall" and "banning muslims". Also he wishes to use stop and frisk again which imo is not only racist but it targets minorities and is deemed unconstitutional. The only reason Trump got elected is because the American public as well as the world tbh is too drowned in social media to be able to think rationally for themselves. But then again who is more suited to fool the public using social media than the king of social media himself.

Plain and simple his ideas are not only backwards thinking, but highly irrational. I dont know what kind of illuminati tinfoil hat mumbo jumbo hes on to believe that global warming doesnt exist when it in fact does. Science is used as a means to question our surroundings and learn more about the environment we live in while religion plays a role in our spiritual bringing together. His use of religion as a means to justify a law is completely unconstitutional in its own right because of the fact that we have the freedom of religion, therefore we should not be held to other peoples religious standards. No one goes into a church and tells you that you cannot pray, so you cannot tell someone they cant be with who they want to be with. Religion was based off the early belief of what caused events in our surroundings such as why it rained, snowed, why there was sunlight etc. However it then later evolved into more of a unifying idea that brought people together and was also used as a means of controlling people, hence the Pope being such a strong influence of power in the early 13th and 14th centuries. Also it would explain why religion was used as a means of control in the HRE (Holy Roman Empire).
While in days past the use of religion was deemed easy to enforce, nowadays it is ineffective as its sphere of influence has dwindled as well as the rise of science.

Yeahhh i highly doubt he's going to somehow make Mexico to build some random wall which would costs billions of $. Also, if employment is the issue, then why not focus on improving the run down areas of America instead of building some 2000 mile wall?
