I don't believe in ghosts (spirits of dead people that roams and scares off people) but I believe in demons or bad spirits. You could see demons. Demons can create images of them that would scare people to death or just blend in nature. Demons can also manipulate you and change your behavior (people being possesed if you are vulnerable) I don't think dead people can do that because it states in the bible that their spirits are held by God. I'm not promoting any religion but I'm also referring to the bible in terms of possible "ghostly encounter" that occured in this story. It's just based on what I read sorry!

We couldn't see his face. It was so dark you couldn't even see your own hands. We only noticed he was about the same height and came from the same area Cade left.

We didn't camp exactly there but a little bit further away. Since right now, that area is literally just flooded.
There are also more trees around there.

In my country there's always spirits in these kinds of places, and we always say 'tabi tabi po' as a kind of respect or request for intruding in the area.
