I heard that most of the people that are good at sparring use the computer, so I gave it a try and can never get used to the mouse aim. Is there any alternative buttons to press? Can you attach a joystick?

I use an xbox controller LOL.
Well you can press the s or d keys to use the gun, and then arrow keys to move, but then you'd have to either stay facing one way or another to actually spar good. I have actually sparred with facebook and I like using the mouse to shoot, point it in the direction I want it to shoot at and use the arrow keys to run. It's all in preference. You could get a controller like Distorted, and it might make it easier for you.
Thanks! The controller worked very well!
The shift key puts you in strafe mode (No matter any direction you move, you will face a certain direction you pressed shift in).
The one problem I have with playing off of facebook is that you can't change your strafe button. W would be ideal for me but it'll only work as 1.
There is no "best setup" for PKing, it's all about preference.
PC Era natives, for example, usually prefer using the keyboard.
Although I've learned that new-school PC Era players are put off by the old-school strafe system on iEra's Facebook application.
1 or SHIFT toggle strafe on and off, so if you want to strafe right, press 1(on), and walk until you're ready to look another direction; press 1 again to toggle it off.
Era PC's got some kind of new-school option to hold down SHIFT whenever you want to want to strafe, and release it to resume regular walking.
I don't strafe that often, but when I do, I prefer pressing 1 to toggle it on and off. I'm old school.
iEra natives may take to a controller with an analog stick better for general movement.
For shooting, if you don't want to use a mouse, you're going to have to make the adjustment to face the direction you wish to shoot in, then shoot.
I've been doing this for almost 12 years, so it feels natural to me.
I'm the opposite from iEra natives; dual analog sticks and a separate shooting mechanism feel uncomfortable to me.
Either way you go, you can't go wrong; I've successfully rocked both keyboard and controller(PS2, PS3, XBOX, XBOX 360, and Wii Classic Controller).
I used the keyboard with Era from 2002 - 2005, and briefly started playing PC Zone in 2005.
Since Zone had 8-directional shooting, it required a different style of PKing, and I didn't want to lose my Era PKing style. So I took scissors to an XBOX(not 360) controller cord, soldered it to an old mouse USB cord, downloaded drivers, and started using it when playing Zone.
Then I made macros on Zone to equip items(hold down Q, double-click xy coordinate, release Q, move mouse cursor out of the way), so I pretty much had hotkeys. I then wanted to have hotkeys like this on Era, so I forced myself to learn how to Era-PK with the Xbox controller.
I was ahead of the curve- I had hotkeys at least five years before they came out on Era. In hindsight, I could have done the same thing with keyboard, I just wasn't as experienced with macros back then.
My preference is the XBOX controller.
I feel that its analog stick is much more responsive than the PS3 or Wii Classic controllers; and I think the 360 controller feels like a Frisbee.
If you're interested in using a controller, you're going to need to find a program to emulate keyboard presses to controller.
I recommend Pinnacle Game Profiler.
It's the easiest one I've come across, and gets the job done. Plus their customer support is great.
It looks like it's actually on sale for $5; which is crazy considering that I bought it back in 2005 for 20 bucks.
Another alternative is XPadder.
I hear that one of their older versions is fully functional and free; although it's an older version so I don't know what it's limitations or bugs are.
EDIT: After some googling, I found it HERE
