Nice improvement on the skull.

For top hats I can help you out with that when I get home, it's rather easy when I show you.

On arts like the cat it's really helpful to have AA around it and to never use the black inside the image to define a structure. And the cat has one long neck haha.
Once I get home I'll post one of my top hats and give you some CC on how to improve.

Okay so tophats aren't that hard. All you need really is a nice shape and then add your perspective into it and it will look fine.

This is a tophat I made awhile back:


Basically, keep the top the lightest because that's where the light is hitting. Now, you don't have to shade it like mine. There are many ways you can shade it, mine was more of a gradient type, but it looks great so that's why I kept it.

I also blended my ribbon part (or strap, whatever you want to call it) with the hat. You don't have to do this but that's how I shaded it in my style. When you make the top part and you start making that highlight line to go down to the middle, you want to make it blend, otherwise it will look like a giant bright line dividing the top part to the middle part.

Try studying it.

Okay so my ipad gave me trouble since it's pretty sensitive to touch so I ended up having to upload it to imgur and post them from my laptop. Back on topic, thanks Shiz! I'll get back to doing top hats soon.

For now here's some drawings I did on my ipad. Trying to strive for improvement. ^-^
