the cause of the zombification* would also play a key part in where id go and what id do, if it was from pure human contact probably an island (this would be quite achievable due to my geographical location and ownership of a boat)

Island not really a good place once the infection be around the planes will crush in water and the deads be zombies float over the water and the tide will get them to a beach which will be island most likely u need to put cage around to be safe
Boat is a good idea but how long u can stay in ocean and also the motor might get damaged due to dead bodies in the oceans stuck in engine if u need a good place go to a hill something that zombies cant reach (climbing)

the plane routes do not go near these islands and the islands are pretty self sustainable with resources (food/water)

Not exactly. if you know how to take care of yourself and how to take out multiple targets (in the case of raiders) you dont need a group, although you might go insane from lack of human contact.

build electric fences, have guns prepared kill anyone who gets close to your home, whether they're pregnant women, children or old people kill them, they'll just consume your supplies or maybe live in the woods build a house there and do super high fences.
