and yes that hat was my reference image. When doing any art on someone else's creation you should always use a reference image.

The shaping could use some work, it looks rather 'awkward' right now..
Hmm... Maybe you used too many colors. Like Myst said, it needs a bit of reshaping. Take only the black outline, fix it up, then make a palette of 3-5 shades of brown. With only those 3-5 shades, try to make the hat. 3 should be fine, but if you need the extra 2 , go for it. also, to generate a 3D effect, make your brightest shade (usually used on the top of a piece) 2 light levels higher than the rest. And vary your colors. If you change the value by 2 each time, you'll get nowhere with the shading, it'll remain as-is.
