Trivia is in the "Skill" door. If the questions were always era related, they would end up being repeated through every trivia. Questions would be the same and it would just get boring. People will then end up knowing the answers to the questions off by heart, and that wouldn't show an skill at all.

This^ I have learnt from my past mistake of asking rather similar questions each time, in fact people even started creating shortcuts for my questions. Therefore questions besides era related should be mixed in.

It's up the the PR/Admin hosting to create his/her own questions about a specific topic.
This is why there is always a good mix of questions;be it sports,general knowledge,history,technology along with era-related questions.
If you are proficient in a topic,then you gain the advantage without a doubt.
Not everyone has equal knowledge about the game or about certain topics,so don't complain if you always lose when you don't put in the effort to learn.
