I feel that if they don't fix it, then perhaps disable the reward for it? There is a yes or no button so if people don't want to play they don't have to as well. You could add events like these that don't pay out in between the ones that do so there is a better rate of ongoing events. Everyone's happy, but no one will think it's perfect of course.
