I'd assume you'd have to get permission from the creators of the show, or whatever it is you're looking for, to create a game based off of this.

Yeah Tricky is correct. In order to use work that's not yours, you'd have to ask for permission. In this case you would have to ask the creator for permission to use his or her work to further elaborate on your ideas.

I don't think it's wrong to use the genre as many people have done it.

No it's not legal. But it's graal. Graal does not follow copyright rules, Stefan throws that book right out the window.

So get permission if you don't want to get sued. :P I'm not sure where you would start, but I'd suggest trying to find some sources where you might be able to contact the creators. If that is what you so desire.
